The EPG — Electronic Programme Guide — is what turns a channel list into a proper television experience. It shows you what is on right now, what is coming up next and what has already aired, just like the guide on a cable or satellite box. Here is how to set it up and make the most of it in your IPTV app.
What Is the EPG?
The EPG is a database of programme schedules for every channel in your IPTV subscription. When your app downloads the EPG it can show you:
- The name and description of the programme currently airing on each channel
- A timeline of upcoming programmes for the next 7 days
- Programme start and end times so you know exactly when something starts
- Programme descriptions and categories to help you discover content
- Reminders and recordings you can set directly from the guide
Setting Up EPG in TiviMate
If you connected TiviMate using Xtream Codes, EPG data loads automatically — you do not need to do anything. If EPG is not showing:
- Go to Settings → Playlists
- Select your IPTV Nords playlist
- Tap EPG
- If it is set to "From Playlist" and not working, contact IPTV Nords support for your dedicated XMLTV EPG URL
- Paste the XMLTV URL in the EPG source field
- Tap Update EPG and wait for the data to download
EPG update frequency: Set TiviMate to auto-update the EPG every 24 hours in Settings → EPG. This keeps programme information current without requiring manual updates.
Setting Up EPG in IPTV Smarters Pro
- Open IPTV Smarters Pro and go to Settings
- Tap EPG / XMLTV
- If EPG is not loading automatically from your Xtream Codes connection, add your XMLTV URL here
- Set auto-refresh to daily
- Restart the app to apply changes
Setting Up EPG in GSE Smart IPTV
GSE Smart IPTV has the most flexible EPG setup, allowing you to manually map EPG data to channels if automatic matching fails:
- Go to Settings → EPG Settings
- Add your XMLTV URL as an EPG source
- Under Channel Mapping you can manually match channels that did not map automatically
- Tap Reload EPG
Using the EPG Grid View
The EPG grid is the most useful way to navigate your channels. In TiviMate:
- Press the Guide button on your remote to open the EPG grid
- Scroll left and right to move through time, up and down to change channels
- Press OK on any current programme to switch to that channel immediately
- Press OK on a future programme to set a reminder or schedule a recording
- Press the colour buttons on your remote to jump forward/backward by 24 hours
EPG for Catch-Up TV
When catch-up TV is available, past programmes in the EPG grid are displayed with a different colour or a replay icon. Select any past programme and choose Watch from Beginning to start the catch-up stream. This works for content aired up to 7 days ago on supported channels.
Why Is My EPG Not Showing Data?
Common EPG issues and fixes:
- No EPG data at all — make sure you are connected via Xtream Codes, not just M3U. Xtream Codes carries EPG data automatically
- Some channels have no guide data — not every channel has EPG data available. Smaller regional channels often lack programme guide information
- EPG is out of date — force a manual refresh in your app settings
- Wrong programmes showing — the EPG mapping for that channel may be incorrect. In GSE you can manually correct it
